Marketplace Study Shows How IBM i Language Use Evolves At the heart of the IBM i platform is RPG, the dominant development language that has been used for decades on the platform. However, as any IBM i guru knows, it's not the only language used. In fact, there are over nine languages that are used on the platform. The list includes:

• RPG
• SQL
• CLP
• Java
• PHP
• Python
• COBOL
• Node.js
• C#.NET
• C++

As this article highlights the IBM i platform is a robust system that has and will continue to stand the test of time. As nature evolves, so does the IBM i. Learn How to Deploy a PHP App on the IBM i Watch Liam Allen and Alen Seiden set up PHP instance on the IBM i and deploy a PHP app. Deploy a Node.js app on the IBM i We are seeing more and more IBM i shops looking to leverage Node.js on the IBM i. This is a quick demo that will get you started. What is a REST API? While there are many in the IBM i development community that are familiar with REST API's, many are not. Some feel that "the future of Enterprise Application development on the IBM i is API and Web Service development." This is a quick introduction to a REST API.

Training

Managing IBM i source with Git "If you have ever felt that working with Git on the IBM i platform was a little awkward and could be refined to fit your native IBM i development experience on RDi or SEU just a bit better, then you might be interested in learning about a new utility called iForGit". In fact, if you are an RPG developer and looking to learn more on the benefits of using Git in an IBM i environment, then you might want to consider attending the WMCPA Spring Conference. At the conference, you will have a chance to learn from Richard Schoen, expert software developer and industry leading trainer. Not only will you learn how to use Git, but you will also learn how to leverage RPG with open-source apps and use Python on the IBM i. WMCPA Spring Conference Details WMCPA iCON is a full 3-day, in-person event and is the largest conference in the Midwest! The conference is held at Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan, WI. The conference features more than 50 sessions on current topics for IBM i professionals and is a huge success every year! Join us this year for our 35th annual event:

Remote Work

What's the Optimal Workplace for Your Organization? A recent study found that "what employees think works best for them may limit the potential of the business as a whole." The idea of remote work in some companies is creating some tensions. It is clear that remote work has its benefits, though on the other hand, there are times or specific roles that are better off in the office. So, what is the right answer? To help here is a "framework to guide managers on identifying the optimal work configuration for maximizing the effectiveness of their knowledge-driven organization." "Depending on where an organization falls on those two dimensions, we recommend that managers implement one of four stylized working configurations: a stand-alone office or campus, hybrid with flexible space, coworking environment, or fully remote."
