How Big Blue Stacks Up IBM i On Premises And On Cloud Looking for a price comparison for IBM i on premises vs cloud. Here is an article and chart that will help you see how it breaks down. How the Cloud Is Enabling Competition and Legacy Support "While the move to put applications into the cloud is arguably one of the biggest trends this decade, much of the activity is with relatively new platforms and applications that were designed with this in mind. There are millions of legacy applications companies aren't willing to recreate running on AIX and IBM i platforms that could enjoy the same benefits."

IoT

How The Construction Industry Benefits from IoT Are you having trouble buying into the hype behind IoT? Here is an article that gives some examples of how the construction industry is using IoT. Think about how it could work at your company. AI in IoT elevates data analysis to the next level "As IoT devices voraciously gather data, many companies are unprepared to take it all in. Deploying AI in IoT systems can make a profound difference when sorting through data."

Why analysts are hailing Db2 11.5 as the database for AI "The recent launch of IBM Db2 11.5 has brought the benefits of that approach into greater focus. Writers and analysts at Forbes, InformationWeek, TechTarget and many others have begun to take notice." If you are interested in learning why IBM is releasing an AI database you can read it here. Data Lake What is a data lake? "Data lakes are next-generation hybrid data management solutions that can meet big data challenges and drive new levels of real-time analytics. Their highly scalable environment can support extremely large data volumes and accept data in its native format from a wide variety of data sources." In other words "a data lake stores data from more sources. It is essentially a collection of various raw data assets that come from an organization's operational systems and other sources."

Development

Using TURNOVER in an IBM i iASP Environment If you use TURNOVER in an IBM i iASP Environment here is a quick, and helpful, step by step blog post from Nick Litten.

Leadership

The future of personalization—and how to get ready for it The need to understand your customers has always be important. The tools available today to help you understand your customer make it easy. If you use them. "Personalization will be the prime driver of marketing success within five years. Here are the capabilities companies need to develop to stay ahead of the curve." A huge amount of pressure is being placed on executives to ensure their organizations remain future-proof in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

Modernization

Learning to love technical debt "Technical debt gets a bad rap. Engineers and technologists tend to speak of it as something to be avoided – a liability that accrues from mistakes, poor planning or sloppy coding. Nobody wants those problems, but it’s not fair to say that all technical debt is bad." Core Modernization Beyond Digital Transformation "It is core modernization that answers how companies with significant investments in their legacy systems can extract more value by making these systems a foundation for new disruptive innovations. This becomes more challenging, considering the complexity of legacy environments and the magnitude of technical debt. Core modernization involves making a roadmap to build a next-generation ERP core to incorporate digital and cloud forces, rather than just enabling them."

Trends

AI Supercomputing and the Enterprise "In June 2008, the well-named IBM Roadrunner supercomputer blew past all competitors by clocking at compute speeds no system on the planet had achieved before." Fast forward. What does this all mean? For digital transformation to take place, AI will need to make it in the enterprise.
